Early morning:
The alarm is set for 4:15 am but I often wake before the alarm. I usually lie in bed for a few extra minutes and think about what I dreamt. I also love to feel lazy and relish a few moments of unscheduled time to open my eyes slowly.
Molly jumps out of bed at 4:15 promptly. Together we make our bed in the dark. She will take off to the basement to work out or head to her upstairs office.
I like to take my time in the morning. I will brush my teeth, wash and moisturize my face, put on mascara, and brush my hair.
My clothes are laid out the night before so I go ahead and get dressed.
I will sometimes weigh myself first thing in the morning but I am trying to get away from this and trust my eating program is working. I hope to get to the point that I only weigh in once a week for my weight check-in.
The night before I also fill my 64 oz jug of water and have that handy. As I am getting dressed I usually down 1-2 full glasses of water.
This month of April I am also taking a picture each morning of my outfit. I am still trying to get a sense of what clothes I feel best in. I am keeping a photo album on my phone of my April outfits.
Miracle Morning:
Time for SAVERS (I recently posted details of the Miracle Morning principles) Miracle Morning Blog
By 4:45-5 am I am up in the top floor “fairy room”. It’s still pretty dark out. I light a pretty lightly scented candle. I sit cross-legged on my twin bed which is set up as more of a couch. I have lots of pillows and a thick warm blanket for chilly mornings. I jump straight into 15 minutes of meditation time. These days I do set an alarm, but in the past, I often meditated until I felt properly centered.
Next up I write a paragraph or two in my journal.
Affirmations are then spoken out loud for all 12 of my categories. I try to stay present while reading them and feel each of them as if they were already a reality.
Vision time-I will either gaze at my vision board tacked onto my wall or pull up my vision board on my phone so I can hold each category’s image firmly in my mind.
Reading-I am currently reading Richest Man in Babylon.
I set my timer for 25 minutes. It’s astounding how many books I have already read this year during this practice.
Exercise:
Last of the savers is exercise. Between 6-6:30 am I head down to the basement. I roll out my yoga mat and change into yoga clothes. I have found that I prefer to get dressed first thing when I wake up, then change into workout clothes and back into my day clothes when finished. Otherwise, I was still in workout clothes for just about the whole day.
Depending on what day it is I will perform that day’s workouts.
Every morning is yoga, followed by abs or weights, followed by 10 minutes of a neck routine that I do. I have found that this Amazon product has helped relax my neck muscles. Rest Cloud Neck and Shoulder Relaxer. M-F I hop onto the stationary bike for 15 minutes while reading an interesting book. I am currently rereading Illusions of a Reluctant Messiah.
Breakfast:
7:00 am: time for a morning smoothie. Today’s smoothie was chocolate almond cherry crunch.
Chocolate cherry crunch smoothie:
3/4 cup frozen sweet dark cherries
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup coconut water
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 tablespoon cacao powder
1/2 tablespoon cacao nibs
1/2 tablespoon almonds or 1/2 tablespoon almond butter
1 scoop protein powder (I used Vegansmart all-in-one-Nutritional shake vanilla)
Place ingredients in blender except cacao nibs. Blend until almost smooth. Add cacao nibs and pulse. (I prefer my smoothie with little pieces of crunchy nibs. Reminds me of chocolate chip ice cream)
Morning planning:
By 7:30 am I sit in the library and review my calendar for the next day. I program my TO DO schedule accordingly. I then think about what I want to eat the following day. I program my next day’s eating into My Fitness Pal.
Education:
8:00 am: I set my timer and do an hour of Duolingo Italian lessons.
By 9:00 I usually take a 30-minute break to play Words with Friends with Molly and Robin and scroll through my horoscope, emails, texts, and some quick Facebook. I try to be very diligent about not wasting hours on Facebook like I used to do.
Chores:
By 9:30 I get into motion. I set my alarm for 1 hour and knock out chores such as house cleaning or phone calls I need to make.
10:30 snack time
My favorite snack: Black sesame crackers with organic grapes and a spoon of almond butter
11:00 Walk
Lula Mae and I head out for an hour’s walk down to the river. These days we go straight from the house to work on building up our muscles with the hills between our home and the river. I always have on my earbuds and a fun audiobook that I only listen to while walking. This time of year it’s particularly pretty. I can’t help but stop to take pictures of all the beautiful flowers and wildlife. I love seeing the blue herons and the bluebirds of happiness. Lula Mae gets a special doggy snack when we get back. She loves chicken jerky strips.
12:30
Time for Lunch
I usually have a large salad with fresh mixed lettuce, cabbage mix, cherry tomatoes, sunflower seeds, avocado, and a light homemade garlic lemon vinaigrette.
Energizing salad (Recipe modified from Fit for Life by the Diamonds):
2 cup chopped greens
1 cup spinach
5 chopped cherry tomatoes
1/2 cup cucumber diced
1/2 cup chopped carrots
1/2 cup celery
2 tablespoons raw sesame seeds
1/4-1/2 avocado chopped
Feel free to add any other raw veggies you have on hand. Toss all ingredients in a bowl. Top with dressing
Dressing:
1/2 clove garlic (leave intact but cut small slices on the side)
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
sea salt and pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients and let sit for 15 minutes. Use a fork to grab garlic and swirl around the ingredients. Toss out the garlic. Makes enough dressing for two salads
1:30 Productivity
I use the afternoon time to blog, work on writing my novel, sew or research anything I need to work on for my level 10 goals. This usually requires another large glass of water (my sixth for the day) and a small handful of jellybeans…ten to be exact! Although I am contemplating switching out jellybeans for some delicious organic grapes, fresh pineapple, or cuties. I just love that sweet and sour taste!
3:30 Snack time
This might also be a time that I do some extra cleaning and organizing.
4:30 Dinner prep
I already know ahead of time what is on the dinner menu. Items needed are defrosted or items have been ordered so I can fix a simple nutritious dinner. We currently are following a menu plan of protein, grain or carb, and a vegetable. This has been working out really well for us, although I am starting to switch out some of our proteins to more plant-based menus.
Depending on how my day is going I may also use this time for a 20-minute soak in the hot tub.
6:00 pm
Molly gets home at about 5:45. We eat dinner by 6 pm. Sometimes it is in the dining room, but most often we will turn on the fireplace in the living room and watch an episode of The Amazing Race while eating dinner. It’s very fun and relaxing for us. We always pretend that we are one of the participating teams. After dinner, Molly often makes some air-popped popcorn. If I didn’t have a “milky tea” earlier after lunch, I may have one after dinner for dessert.
After dinner, I crochet for an hour while watching tv.
7:30 pm
Dishes get done, Lula Mae gets taken out, heater turned off, Porch lights are on and we start closing out our day.
8:00 pm
I lay out my clothes for the next day, including jewelry and underthings. Wash up, brush and floss.
I will often take a warm bath at the end of the evening. Or sometimes I take a bath while dinner is cooking, but on those days, Molly comes home to find me in my pajamas lol. And sometimes I will take my bath first thing in the morning. It just depends.
8:15 pm bedtime
I like to read between 15 minutes to an hour. I am currently on book 17 of a 17-book lesbian Australian detective series with Carol Ashton by Claire McNab.
For my perfect day, it’s important to me that I get between 7-8 hours of sleep a night, so I make sure I am not up for too long.
As I turn off the light, I am pleased at how much I accomplished. I am definitely on track with my plan of living the perfect level-10 life. And it is so much fun!

I know I have the luxury of being retired, but I do want to mention that I followed a lot of this routine even when I was working.
What my week looks like:
I have found it helpful to designate a theme for each day.
Monday-Clean the fridge and collect trash in the house (Tuesday is trash day). Place an online grocery order for the next day.
Tuesday-Spend extra time cleaning the house. A great resource for house cleaning that I like to follow is FlyLady. You can find her at FlyLady.net
Wednesday-I try to make all my appointments on Wednesdays. I find it helpful to only have to leave the house once during the week for errands or appointments if possible.
Thursday-Laundry. I like to start a load as soon as I go down to the basement to work out. Molly brings down all the laundry, I wash, and she is kind enough to haul it all back up the the 2nd floor.
Friday-I would like this day to be yard work, gardening, or crafting. I am working on it.
Weekends:
When I am really living my best life, I like to break our weekends down into specific categories as well.
During the 4-5 weekends in the month, we try to designate the following categories, although we may mix up what order we do them in.
- 1-Home projects and cleaning etc
- 2-Entertain-Either a small retreat at our home or a special dinner with company
- 3-Get a way-We like to plan a little overnight excursion if possible or even a day trip
- 4-Something active-Hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing, rafting…anything active and fun
- 5-Free weekend-This more than likely means chilling at home and not doing a dang thing! I think this might be Molly’s favorite although it’s rare that this happens.
